The new terminal at Chibougamau-Chapais Airport, which serves the vibrant communities of Chibougamau (ᔑᐳᑲᒨ), Chapais (ᔕᐦᐯᔾ), Ouje-Bougoumou (ᐆᒉᐳᑯᒨ) and Mistissini (ᒥᔅᑎᓯᓃ), was constructed using locally sourced boreal glued laminated timber (glulam) and cross-laminated timber (CLT), and features generous RAICO timber façades. Complemented by local artworks that celebrate the rich heritage of the Eeyou Istchee region, the design floods the space with natural light, enhances energy efficiency and reinforces structural integrity.
